A
Little About Me |
|

Portraiture
is something I’ve been doing since I was old enough to hold
a pencil. Professionally speaking, I’ve been doing it since
I was 11 years old, although I must confess that sometimes I laugh
when I think of all those days I spent sitting on my blanket at a
dog show, hoping someone would buy a portrait. |

Although
I tried to take my collegiate art in the more “practical”
direction of Industrial Design, I just wasn’t happy. The design
awards and scholarships just weren’t as fulfilling as the days
when I’d get completely lost doing a portrait of a friend. Almost
immediately after I graduated with my Bachelors of Fine Arts from
Brigham Young University, I returned to portraiture and it honestly
felt like coming home! Oh, I love what I do! |

I
paint people particularly because, as James Whistler said, “It
takes a man a long time to look like his portrait.” I aspire
to not only cultivate the ability to see the intrinsic worth of each
person I paint, but also to put what I see onto the canvas in their
expression and demeanor. |

As
for horses, well, I suppose that’s the little dreamer coming
out in me. After riding, competing, and training for several years,
I feel that each time I paint a horse that I’m honoring a very
good friend and one of my best teachers. |
