Typical Portrait Process & Timeline |

Please see General FAQs for information regarding the waiting list and terms. Work on your portrait will begin as soon as
possible based on Natalie's current waiting list, following which the basic painting schedule is as outlined:
| |
| |
Step One: Consulation and Creativity Session (1-2 hours) This step is where Natalie will discuss options with you, including the overall idea for the painting, composition, color theme, and posing. Ideally, this meeting is held at a location where the finished painting will hang. |
| |
| |
Step Two: (Optional) Photo Shoot and Composition Studies (1-2 hours repeated over 1-3 days) Natalie prefers to work from life, but when this is not possible due to scheduling or high energy in young children, she will work from photographs. In this step, Natalie will create her own photo references and perhaps some quick studies of the subject(s) from life to capture color and expression. Natalie will go over the photos with you and choose the best ones for the final painting. |
| |
| |
Step Three:
Paint the Portrait (1-3 Months) If the portrait is painted from life, expect 3-6 sittings at roughly 2-3 hours each. When the painting is complete, you will receive the “tentative”
final image via email. Do not feel you are being rude if you want
to suggest modifications. Natalie hopes you and your posterity will cherish this portrait
for a LONG time and is committed to getting it just the way you want it. Please,
be as picky as you wish! |
| |
| |
Step Four:
Final Live Sitting (2-3 Hours) Whenever possible, Natalie prefers to do a final, live sitting in order to make any final adjustments to color or expression. This sitting can be arranged at the client's home or Natalie's studio. |
| |
| |
Step Five: Final Varnish (up to 6 months) Natalie will apply the final coat of varnish. |
| |
| |
Step Nine: Final Delivery (1 week) After varnish dries and Natalie has received payment in full, the painting is shipped back to you and ready for generations of enjoyment!
